Jazz Age

Jazz Age

The jazz age, notoriously known as the American High, spans in between World War I and America’s Great Depression dating back from 1900 to 1930. Modernism has set in with the raging depression of economic and cultural activities in North America. The jazz age is the raging explosion of jazz musical and dance artistry that occurred within the African-American communities which took root in the city of Chicago. It produced a wealthy social interaction, music and dance through jazz.

The jazz age not only influenced music, but also the American culture in general. Modernization has set and it reformed the conventional culture that existed. Hair styles, clothing and social activities changed and so did music. Of the musical genres of that time, jazz became the top ace with none second to it. It integrated the modernization and adapted to the era through improvisations and innovations in tunes and harmony which were unconventional at that time. The younger generations notably were the supporters of jazz music and culture during these times.

The American High resulted from the musical minds of jazz that started the progeny of a diverse genre of music and dance, and made sure they continued to exist. Inspired by the worsening economic conditions of America, jazz crept its way to the scene. It created a surge of popularity never seen before and provided the ‘high’ that made the mass culture fiend for the music and dance like crazy to the beats. A vast number of individuals found fulfillment in leisure rather than worry about economic productivity. The influx of jazz’s popularity is marked by the birth of Chicago jazz. This laid the groundwork for the spread of jazz music as a mass culture spread to New York, and to the rest of the nation.

The jazz fever roared within music clubs and parties that jazz music accompanied by dance. The unbridled participation of the younger generations made jazz flourish and thus, gave birth to different styles that defined the regional cultures at that time. At some point, jazz became the core of artistic modernization with emphasis to innovations. The musical scene has never before achieved   such popularity as jazz did. Jazz musicians became the extraordinaire of entertainment.

Jazz has set the modern standard of music and refused to fade even after the Jazz age. Its progeny was sturdily founded and is not easily demolished. Even decades after the American High, jazz has never failed to hit the music scene.
